02 — Common options

Two common paths.

An indicative comparison. The right option depends on your activity, your clients and your residence — we review it with you.

Free zone

Free Zone

  • Company set up inside a free zone
  • Licences by type of activity
  • Common for international business, services and e-commerce
  • Each free zone sets its own requirements and costs

Onshore

Mainland

  • Lets you trade in the local UAE market
  • Requirements depend on the activity and emirate
  • May need additional approvals
  • Worth considering if your clients are in the country

03 — Free zones

Free zones we often look at.

  • Dubai

    IFZA

International Free Zone Authority. We review permitted activities and licence requirements.

  • Ajman

    Ajman Free Zone

The free zone of the emirate of Ajman. We assess it against your activity and plans.

  • Sharjah

    SHAMS

Sharjah Media City. Often considered for media and service activities.

  • Ras Al Khaimah

    RAKEZ

Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone. We compare it with other options for your case.

We mention them as common options in our analysis; this does not imply any partnership.

The exact documents depend on the structure and the activity.

06 — Frequently asked questions

Questions about the UAE.

Do I have to live in the UAE to have a company there?

Not necessarily. It depends on the structure and on whether you want residence. We review it with you in the consultation.

Free Zone or Mainland?

It depends on where your clients are and on your activity. Generally, free zones are common for international business and Mainland for trading in the local market.

Does the company entitle me to residence?

In many cases it may allow you to apply for a residence visa, always subject to requirements and approval by the authorities.

Can I do it remotely?

Much of the process can be handled remotely. Some steps, such as those related to the visa, may require you to be there in person.
